The life of a recordable DVD or Blu-ray disc is no more than 5 to 15 years. This reduces the attractiveness of these media for long-term backups. This is why I recommend the use of M-DISC burners which announce a media lifetime of 1000 years at a correct price. I love M-DISC media but the main problem with this device is the lack of USB 3.1 SuperSpeed transfer rate.

M-DISC
M-DISC, also called Millennial Disc, is a write-once optical disc technology introduced in 2009 by Millenniata and available as DVD and Blu-ray discs. Overview. M-DISC’s design is intended to provide greater archival media longevity. Millenniata claims that properly stored M-DISC DVD recordings will last 1000 years. It’s my favourite backup solution in addition to the classic Cloud or remote location rsync backup.
